The cat is after the rabbit, the animal most recently domesticated. Sacred and deified in ancient Egypt, it was introduced into Europe by the Roman legions. In the Middle Ages it is recognized for its usefulness as a destructive rodent, yet often burned at the stake as witches annimal evil. In the seventeenth century, the importation of the first longhaired Turkish and Persian cat must penetrate in the lounges. It was not until the nineteenth century to see the cat conquer all layers of society. It now appears to many as the ideal companion present but discreet, affectionate without being possessive and loyal without servility. Over two hundred portraits of selected among the best representatives of each breed cats.
