Yann Arthus-Bertrand

" Horses " has a equines often rare and unknown races panel . The exhibition consists of 100 portraits of horses posing in front of a canvas . Yann Arthus-Bertrand traveled the world with the same photographic device to emphasize the strong links between animals and humans in different specific civilization and each culture spaces.

The beauty of the horse is in movement and action. How to translate a still image ? And how to express , in a snapshot , the links between the horse to a place , a culture, a civilization?

African savannah, Siberian taiga , swampy lowlands or Himalaya heights : where man has settled , the horse went along. In a few millennia , hundreds of types have developed in all parts of the world . The man turned and shaped horses a variety of races to conform to his dreams and able services he expects : war, transport, agriculture, recreation ...

For 15 years , Yann Arthus-Bertrand made ​​these portraits of horses around the world , from a hundred breeds and types . Moving away from academic conventions equestrian portrait , the photographer kept shooting in studio with a brown canvas backdrop. Then he moved his studio outside, using the concept of what he calls the ' tarp shifted . Planted in the middle of a landscape, the tarp can translate the atmosphere of the life of men with their horses. Each photograph is a composition whose horse is the main character, a captured moment to express vitality, elegance and grace.
